Buying HDTV Online
While most of us are getting used to buying things online, spending $2000 or more at a virtual store can still be a scary prospect. But buying an HDTV, like other types of consumer electronics, practically requires you to spend time on the internet to do research and price comparisons. The best approach is to spend some time in the stores, seeing the sets "in person", and some time on the internet to gather more information or to make your purchase. The customer reviews on the merchants' websites are also a great resource.
Here are 5 reasons to buy your HDTV online:
- It's usually cheaper. Online stores such as Amazon.com often sell the same products as physical stores for several hundred dollars less.
- In the US, there is no sales tax buying online, unless the seller happens to be in the same state as you.
- Free home delivery is often included.
- The appearance of a set in the store can often be misleading. Stores optimize the TV picture for the brightly lit store environment, and that might not tell you much about how the set will look in your home. And, a sneaky manager might actually make some sets look worse then they should, if they want to get rid of other TVs.
- The selection on the internet is limitless. Every set available at your local store is available on the internet, but not the other way around.
OK, what about returns?
Modern HDTVs are really pushing the limits of technology, so there's always a chance everything won't work properly. Online merchants tend to have similar return poicies to brick-and-mortar stores. For example, Amazon.com will accept items bought directly from Amazon or the Target at Amazon.com store, within 30 days of receipt. Here is their return policy: Returning Electronics
If you buy from Amazon through a third party, or from any other website, you should check the return policies of that merchant.
At FlatHDTV.net our goal is to educate you and help you find the best HDTVs available and the best merchants to buy them from. It just makes sense to use the internet to do that.
